NEPAL-HIMALAYAN EXPERIENTIAL SHAMANIC PILGRIMAGE

SEPTEMBER 23-OCTOBER 06, 2022

Nepal, the Heart of World Shamanism

This Nepal-Himalayan Experiential Shamanic Pilgrimage is open to aspiring and experienced Practitioners of Shamanism and Animism who are curious about the diverse and deeply rooted shamanic lineage practices which abound in Nepal. It will be organised and coordinated by Bhola Banstola, a Dhami-Jhankri Shaman with decades of experience leading a wide range of Shamanism and cultural events both within Nepal and in other countries.

As the world continues to change, there is a growing need for healing worldwide. We can only achieve this healing by bridging ancient traditions into our modern times. To restore harmony, Elders and other leaders of our practices must come together to preserve, share and transmit our ancestral wisdom. It’s time to protect and spread our Shamanic teachings, knowledge, and culture in our unity.

Dhami-Jhankri- Shamans, both men and women with diverse cultural backgrounds, from the many geographical regions of Nepal, will share their lineage rituals and traditions in an eco-friendly village nestled on the slopes of Nagarkot Hills about the medieval UNESCO heritage town of Bhaktapur. All the presentations and ceremonies will be both indoor and outdoor.

Each working day will be divided into morning, afternoon and night sessions with lunch and dinner breaks. All participants can participate in ceremonies and group cleansing and healing processes within the stipulated time and space. Being on time and respecting the elders and co-participants is essential and we will adhere to a dress code that respects the cultural expectations.

All the presentations, discussions and ceremonies in Nepali or any regional languages will be translated into English and vice versa (interpreters simultaneously translate rituals and sacred songs as much as possible).

This proposal replaces what was proposed as the ‘Nepal-Himalayan World Shamanic Summit 2022’ with variations of programs and locations. As envisioned in 2019, our previous plans were to invite a substantial number of Shamans and Elders from other countries and significant public participation and work together with local Nepali shamanic communities to create a synergy of traditions.

With so many logistical hurdles in recent times, we decided to offer a smaller event. We will for course still welcome Shamans and Elders from other countries with a warm heart if they can join and share their traditions and practices, thus opening the cultural exchange with their Nepali counterparts and creating a world community.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, the program starts with a reception, escorted to a beautiful property in Thamel at the Apsara Boutique Hotel or equivalent accommodation, where there will be a welcome dinner.

The second day will be dedicated to visiting Lord Shiva’s Shrine at Pashupati and Boudhanath stupa. The group will be driven to Nagarkot on the third day, followed by a warm welcome by the villagers and Shamanic groups from different traditions. After the group lunch, the program starts.

Three days will be fully dedicated to learning and experiencing the shamanic practices of Nepal. With an early morning breakfast, the group will travel to the base of Mt Kalingchock (3700 meters), the sacred seat of the merciful Goddess Kali. The following early morning, the local Shamans accompany us to the top of the mountain for a group ritual, and cleansing and empowerment ceremonies.

On a subsequent morning, the group will be driven to the base of sacred Mt Sayalung (2980 meters), the abode of Lord Shiva. Early on the following morning, the local Shamans accompany the group to the sacred caves and the top of the mountain with their drum beats and songs. In the neolithic rock formation of the foot, which is considered the foot of Lord Shiva, the Shamans will make offerings, dances and rituals of empowerment for the excellent health and healing of all the participants.

After a long day’s walk and pilgrimage, we will sleep in a local homestay. We descend to another village the following day, followed by an evening ritual with another Shamanic community. After breakfast, welcoming the sun rising over Mt Sayalung, the pilgrimage group drives back, taking the winding mountain and river valley roads to Kathmandu, checking into the Hotel Apsara or similar, with dinner and a good night’s sleep.

The following two days are dedicated to visiting: The shrine of Budhanilakantha, the blue-throated reclining Vishnu on the couch of the Naga King. Swayambhunath Chaitya (Monkey Temple).

Pharping (caves where Guru Rimpoche meditated). Jala Vinayaka (the water-related Ganyap/Ganesha for healing relationships and starting and opening the path for the new). Dharati Mata (the Earth Goddess).

The final day is dedicated to Siir Uthaune (raising the head/spirit up), specific teachings, initiations, group discussions, and a closing ceremony. We will then enjoy a Farewell group dinner. The experiential journey and pilgrimage end on the 14th day morning with breakfast before our departure.

MIND AND SOUL IN NEPALI SHAMANISM

MIND AND SOUL IN NEPALI SHAMANISM
This short, three-session Zoom course will focus on the very core of the Dhami-Jhankri Shaman’s work – the Mind and the Soul. This is very different from the way in which these concepts are understood in the West and in other forms of Shamanism.
You will explore the nature of Consciousness and the Soul and what it means in this cosmology and our work with the Deities and Spirits.
The Shaman’s body and the performance of ceremonies are unified with this Mind essence, and we will bring together such aspects as Trance, Dreams, Visions and Omens.
In this traditional context, only the ‘Saato’ part of the Soul can be lost or stolen, and you will learn about a specific ritual called Saato Bolaunu which is used to restore it.

This transmission helps to understand the Shaman’s ‘spirit at work’ and how it may function on the recipient of their work,  bringing a state of healing and well-being. We will also discuss the spiritual and emotional state of the recipient in the aftermath of recovery, dreams interpretation and more.

The Course is open to all – aspirants of any tradition, culture, spiritual practice and nationality.

A FB Group will be created for the participants and all the videos and notes will be uploaded. Therefore, if you cannot join live, you can follow through videos. There will be ample time for Q & A.
